The Summer of Strength & Speed

Post-Wisconsin Marathon, I’m having all the feels. Pride, strength, determination, defeat, shame.

However, nothing can keep me away from the sport I love so here’s what I’ve got coming up on my schedule:

  • Chase Corporate Challenge
    • Thursday, May 24
    • 3.5 miles
    • Goal: be smart and complete it as hard as my legs are willing
  • Team Salute Race
    • Sunday, May 27
    • 3.1 miles
    • Goal: have fun and if my legs feel good, go hard
  • Lake County Runway Race
    • Saturday, July 14
    • 3.1 miles
    • Goal: place in the top 3
  • Margarita Madness 5k
    • Saturday, July 21
    • 3.1 miles
    • Goal: margs
  • Run Mag Mile
    • Saturday, September 8
    • 6.2 miles
    • Goal: have fun and do what I can
  • Chicago Marathon
    • Sunday, October 7
    • 26.2 miles
    • Goal: have fun and do what I can

Other than my race specific goals, the big picture for this summer is to focus on strength and speed.

Last year at this time, I was hitting up Enrgi Fitness 4-7 times a week and my strength was through the roof. I felt like I was invincible and I think that significantly contributed to my PR at the SeaWheeze Half Marathon (but it also could’ve been that incredible playlist I just re-discovered). I’m working with Eric to incorporate more strength based workouts into my routine and also switching things up to attend my beloved classes at various suburban studios in hopes that next race, I won’t face those terrible full-leg cramps.

As for speed, who doesn’t want to be faster? But the real reason I want to focus on speed is because I’m feeling like I might be approaching the edge of being burnt out on distance after Wisconsin and what adds up to nearly a year & a half of training (Chicago Spring Half Marathon training led to Chicago Marathon training which fed into Wisconsin Marathon training). Don’t get me wrong, I still absolutely love it but I don’t want to get to a point where I don’t anymore so I’m being smart and taking a tiny break so I can take on my BQ goal like a BO$$.
