Chicago Spring Half Marathon Review

And just like that, my first race of 2017 is over! As I mentioned before, there were quite a few ups and downs in my training and I think yesterday’s race reflected that.

Starting off, I could tell it was going to be a tough day. I still can’t put my finger on it but something was off that first mile and I never quite got into my groove. The few hills and congested running path also didn’t help. But I don’t want this come off as complaining because even though it wasn’t my best day and I didn’t hit the time I wanted to, I left it all out on the pavement and officially came in at 1:59!

I learned a lot during this race and think we all need one of these tough ones to knock us back down to earth and re-adjust our thinking. Sometimes it’s just not your day but you can’t stop like you might if it were an ordinary run. Running is not just about strong legs or long miles but also a tough mind to keep you going during those hard races. So if you take anything away from my experience yesterday, take away the fact that not every mile will be easy or every race will be a PR but you will always have something coming out of it and it’s up to you to make it a win.
