Disclaimer: I received a free entry to the F^3 Lake Half Marathon as part of being a BibRave Pro, however all opinions are my own. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro and check out BibRave.com to find and review races!
And just like that, my first race of 2018 and 5k have been completed (which confused about the fact that I ran the 5k? Eric and I decided last minute that it didn’t align to my training anymore so Erin & Andy at BibRave and F^3 hooked a sister up and dropped me down to the 5k no joke, 24 hours before the race – HOLLA)! With no goal time or expectations, I went into it pretty open-minded, or at least trying to be because duh, it’s me, I always have a goal in mind. I may have come in a little above where I wanted to be and although I’m a tiny bit disappointed, I keep reminding myself I haven’t been training at that pace yet and haven’t run that fast, that consistently since September. I also really prefer warm weather running. I know it wasn’t cold Saturday but it still burned my chest aka not cool.
I’m not going to bore you with all of the details of the race (however if you are interested in reading my full review, check it out on BibRave here) but I also want to share the main highlights. So here goes nothing:
|+Starting packet pickup the weekend before the race|
+Multiple locations for packet pickup, including several in the burbs!
+Saturday race day: I got to race and go out all in one weekend, very unusual
+Late start: holla for sleeping in my own bed and saving money on a hotel
+Flat course with a scenic lake view
+Race communication the few weeks leading up to the race
|-Paying $20 for parking
-If you're into a large expo, that didn't happen here
-The walk to the post-race beer: I love a good city walk but I don't think I would have if I ran the half
-Signage: I got lost in the parking lot as did a lot of others, we also took the long way to the bar because we didn't know where to go
Another cool thing was F^3’s inclusion on Athlinks. Athlinks is a one-stop shop for all of your race results. I got the opportunity to add myself to the start line pre-race and then claim my results post-race. It’s awesome to have all of my results in one spot because tbh, I’ve never really recorded them anywhere, so Athlinks made it really easy!
Overall, F^3 was a great experience and although I probably won’t participate next year (I just can’t hang with the winter training), I would definitely recommend it to anyone that enjoys a chilly run!
