With all of the BQ-goal talk, I totally skimmed right over the fact that I’m running the F^3 Lake Half Marathon on January 20! Yep, you read that right. I’m running a half marathon. In January. In Chicago. Crazy, right? Unfortunately (or fortunately), it fit right into the timing of my BQ-goal so I’m going for it.
But the more I’ve talked about it within my Chicago running community, the more excited I’m getting (even though I’m a BABY when it’s cold out). I’ve heard nothing but great reviews about the 5k and half marathon. The price is affordable and gets you a lightweight, hooded, long-sleeved shirt (pictured below) and medal. The half doesn’t start until 10 and the 5k starts at 10:30 which is a double bonus with more light and more time to sleep. The post-race party is at a bar right by Soldier Field (which is where the race starts and ends aka hello ample parking for all of us commuters!) which is such a relief considering we’ll probably be a little chilled post-race. And somehow, it always ends up being decent weather on race day.
I’ve decided that if you’re going to run a half marathon in the winter (because seriously, what else are you going to do in hibernation season?), this is the one to do. So if you’re kinda crazy and want to join me (mostly for the beer afterwards), use “bibrave13” to get $6 off the half marathon and “bibrave5” to get $5 off the 5k!
And shout out to Mariah Bardo because I stole that running picture from her when she ran the half in 2016 – first ever and she kicked major booty, even with the snow on the ground (please, please let that not be the case this year)! Whoop whoop!
