Yesterday was my first day back to training and let me tell ya, it was rough. Not physically (okay, maybe a little – it’s hard to run after you’ve been coughing up a lung for three weeks) but mentally. I had been so amped to start training at the end of October but then I had wisdom teeth issues so it got pushed. Then I was finally on a good cadence and I got super sick. If that doesn’t show you that life never goes to plan, I don’t know what will.
So what did this teach me and what can you take away from it? Sometimes you need a break no matter how badly you don’t want to take it. Eric kept reminding me that I would rather rest now than come back too soon and end up being out for another couple of weeks. So although I was super impatient, I listened and I’m thankful I did. Coming back 100% means I can give training my all rather than only half-a$$ing it and therefore not benefitting at all.
A second thing I learned is life will always be throwing obstacles at you. And it’s important to get through them with strength and integrity. However, you should never lose sight of your end goal. And while my original plan was to run the One City Marathon in March and BQ, I may have to re-adjust so I have ample time to train smart. But we’ll decide on that once I have more than 60 shin boxes, a 30 minute run and some stretching under my belt 😉
