I’m sure you have seen me posting about National Fitness Day on Facebook and Instagram but I’m here to finally tell you about this exciting event that I have become a part of! There are several organizations that go into this, so I’ll try my best to explain clearly.
On Wednesday, May 10, the US will be having it’s first ever National Fitness Day! It is organized by Class for a Cause which is a movement dedicated to making health and wellness available to all through a single day of attending class. Since this is the first year, it is still quite small and being piloted in New York, LA, and San Fran. Of course, this wasn’t going to work for me so in an effort to bring the movement to Chicago, I partnered with Pilates ProWorks in the West Loop to offer 2 discounted classes!
For only $15, you have the choice to take the Pilates Pro or Bootcamp class. Pilates Pro is a small group of 10 people, each working on their own FitFormer pilates machine. This amped up pilates class combines resistance, lengthening, strength training, and cardio. Bootcamp is a full-body workout that combines cardio, Mat pilates, and yoga for a knock-out workout available to 15 participants.
All proceeds from National Fitness Day will be going to Girls on the Run® which is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.
Meeting twice a week in small teams, certified coaches teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. Running is used to inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence through accomplishment. At each season’s conclusion, the girls and their running buddies complete a 5k run which gives them a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. The result—making the seemingly impossible, possible, and teaching girls that they can.
